Emporia State Athletics has announced the 2024 class of the school’s Hall of Honor. There are seven inductees into this year’s class of the Hall of Honor including six individuals and one team. The class will be inducted at the Hall of Honor Luncheon at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4 in Webb Hall of the ESU Memorial Union. The class will be recognized at halftime of the next day’s Homecoming football game against Northeastern State. The inductees are:
The Emporia State volleyball team opened the Tiger Classic with a 3-2 win over former MIAA rival Truman State beating the Bulldogs 25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 victory Friday afternoon at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. ESU started strong defensively forcing 11 TSU errors in the opening set, but Truman State hit.304 in the second set to tie the match. ESU hit a blistering.325 in the third but Truman State held ESU to just.091 in the fourth set. The Lady Hornets held Truman State to just three kills in the fifth to hang on for the win. Weronika Wrzesinska led ESU with 15 assists while Brailey Bogle led the way with 44 assists and 14 digs. ESU (4-1) returns to action Saturday morning to face Colorado-Colorado Springs.
The Emporia State soccer team scored three-straight goals to beat Northern State 3-1 in Bismarck, N. D. on Friday afternoon. NSU tallied first before the Lady Hornets answered with less than 20 minutes to go in the first half on a goal by Megan Jeremias assisted by Sade Lee. Less than five minutes into the second period, Megyn Mahloch gave the Lady Hornets the lead on an assist by Abby Bachman. Bachman wasn’t done tallying with less than three minutes to go on a dime from Megan Kephart. Each team had nine shots but Mackenzi Goen nabbed six saves for ESU (2-1). E-State returns to action Sunday in a true road game at the University of Mary.
The Emporia State volleyball team went 3-0 at the Tiger Classic by picking up a pair of wins Saturday. ESU started the day with a 25-16, 27-25, 25-23 decision over Colorado-Colorado Springs. ESU used an 8-0 run to take control of the first set before a 10-3 run helped ESU come from behind in the second set. ESU hit.312 against the Mountain Lions with Weronika Wrzesinska leading E-State with 13 kills and five blocks.

The UMary Marauders dominated possession on the way to a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon. The Marauders scored twice in the first half and again just minutes into the second half to drop the Lady Hornets to 2-2 on the season. UMary outshot ESU 17-3 in the match including 6-2 in shots on goal. UMary had four corner kicks compared to just one for the Lady Hornets. Hadlie Lowe had both shots on goal for E-State. ESU heads back to Emporia for their home opener Wednesday against Drury. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at the ESU Pitch.

The Emporia State football team has been honored by the MIAA for the third consecutive week to open up the season. Kobe Holley is the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week while Caden Dodson is the Special Teams Player of the Week. Holley led the Hornets with nine tackles at defensive back and an interception in ESU’s road win at #4 Pittsburg State last week. Dodson averaged nearly 49 yards per punt last week for the Hornets while connecting on a 25-yard field goal in the first half. It is ESU’s first special teams award of the season and the second-straight week that a Hornet defender has been honored.

The Emporia State volleyball team bounced back from their second loss of the year to beat Henderson State in four sets on day two of the PSU Invitational at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan. Friday with a 25-16, 28-26, 17-25, 25-18 victory over the Reddies. The Lady Hornets peppered HSU in the first set hitting.412 on the way to a 1-0 lead before scraping by HSU in the second set after the Reddies saved three set points. HSU controlled the third set hitting.333 while ESU hit just.067. E-State (7-2) built a 16-10 lead in the fourth and was never challenged to take the win and move to 1-1 at the event. Rayishon Jackman led ESU as one of four Lady Hornets in double-digit kills with 17 while Camilla Ossola added 12. Weronicka Wrzesinka & McKenya Sorrells each tallied 11. Jackman had another double-double with 16 digs. The Lady Hornets wrap up their weekend Saturday against Missouri S&T. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
