SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Just when we were beginning to warm up get ready for another shot of chilly air to move in. A cold front is scheduled to move into the area late Friday morning bringing only a small chance for a passing shower or two mainly during the late morning through the early afternoon. Once the front passes your area winds will shift to the NW and this will bring another round of chilly temperatures but only for about 24 hours. We will see a very chilly start to the day on Saturday with lows some 10-15 degrees below average.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Temperatures will be in the upper 40s on Saturday morning and with a NE wind at 5-10 mph it will feel even colder. So bundle up if you have a early tee time. We will see plenty of sunshine throughout the day as high pressure builds in behind the cold front.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Some disruptive weather heading our way as a strong cold front moves in on Wednesday. This front will bring some much needed rainfall but we are not expecting to see a long duration event. The timing of the rain will be late morning through the early afternoon on Wednesday. We could see some sea fog developing out ahead of this front late Tuesday early Wednesday. We have called Wednesday a First Alert Weather Day or FAWD but it will only be for a few hours on Wednesday. We are not expecting to see anything severe but an isolated thunderstorm is possible with the passage of this front. It will be mainly scattered showers with less than a half inch of rainfall expected.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A strong fast moving cold front will bring showers and a few thunderstorms, some of which could turn severe with winds greater than 58 mph. The timing of the storms moving into NW Manatee County will be late morning and through the early afternoon. We have made Wednesday a First Alert Weather day (Late morning through mid-afternoon) meaning we will see some disruptive weather at times for the area. The rain event shouldn't last all that long maybe an hour but some of those storms will be strong at times.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - This brief shot of cold air is soon to move out by Friday afternoon as winds begin to shift more to the NE and E over the next several days. It will be chilly to the start of Friday but should warm into the mid 70s by early afternoon. Lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s across the area and with a bit of wind it will feel a couple of degrees cooler than the actual air temperature.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Temperatures have been warm lately with highs in the low 80s. That is well above the average which is 75 degrees for mid December. We will see this warm weather continue as winds will be out of the east and eventually southeast by Wednesday. We are on the back side of a ridge of high pressure and with those easterly winds we could see a chance for a few mid afternoon and early evening showers on Tuesday as some additional moisture moves in from the east coast.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The high at the Sarasota/Bradenton airport was 86 degrees on this Tuesday, just 2 degrees of tying a record. We even had a couple of showers and an isolated thunderstorm develop in Highlands County late this afternoon. This is more akin to summer than early winter. Speaking of Winter it officially arrives this Saturday at 4:21 a.m. known as the Winter Solstice. It will be the shortest day or longest night in the northern hemisphere. Solstice means “sun stops”. This is the where the sun sets at the lowest latitude in the northern hemisphere. From that point to the start of summer the sun will set each day a little further north.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The warm weather we have seen lately will be departing over the next couple of days. A weak cold front will move through on Thursday and then a stronger one on Friday around midday. Typically when a cold front approaches we see the possibility of sea fog developing. This fog will be a problem driving and boating with limiting visibilities down to less than a 1/4 of a mile in places. This is a First Alert Weather “heads-up” for tough driving conditions over the next couple of nights.

Expect to see some fog once again overnight but not as thick or widespread as we had on Thursday morning. Temperatures will be a bit cooler than we have seen on Friday and the fog will burn off and dissipate quicker than the Thursday mornings fog.
