Local pickleball players, Maria Sasser and Terry Sweat, have won Gold Medals for their First Place finishes at the Georgia Recreation & Parks Association's State Tournament and in the Southern Pickleball Championship Tournament. Maria is from Vidalia and Terry lives in Zaidee, but they competed as partners representing the Vidalia Recreation Department at the GRPA State Tournament held at the Macon Indoor Pickleball Club held in September. The pair were undefeated in 6 games at the 3.0 skill level of the 60-and-above age division to become State Champions.

On a night which the Vidalia Lady Indians knocked off their cross-county rival Toombs County, 48-34, the Lady Indians were able to honor one of their own, Senior Guard Hannah Nichols, for surpassing the 1,000-point milestone in her career. Nichols achieved this significant feat last Friday with her 1,000th point coming during the Lady Indians’ 49-37 victory against Statesboro, solidifying her place among the top scorers in the program’s history.

In a huge Region 3A showdown, Friday night, the Vidalia Indians were able to triumph over their cross-county rivals, Toombs County, with a hard-fought 41-36 victory at Parsons-Reid Gymnasium. The game was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with both teams exchanging leads in an intense battle, but it was Jayon Coleman who shone brightest for the Indians. Coleman delivered an outstanding performance, leading all scorers with an impressive 26 points and proving to be the decisive factor in the closing moments. “That’s one of the best individual performances I’ve seen as a head coach,” said Indian Head Coach Tommy Dally. “Jayon stepped up and put the team on his back. He told me late in the game during a timeout “that there was no way we were going to lose the game.”

The Toombs County Boys Basketball team kicked off January with an impressive 63-47 victory over Montgomery County but faced a challenging weekend with back-to-back losses against Vidalia and Jeff Davis.

The Toombs County Lady HoopDawgs recently faced a tough stretch of three games in three days, showcasing determination and grit. The team secured a solid victory against Montgomery County but fell short in competitive matchups against Vidalia and Jeff Davis.

The VHS Girls Varsity Basketball beats Saint Vincent’s Academy 67 – 37. Complete team play across the board. With a bevy of production from all Lady Indians. The unit which consisted of: Kamey Monroe, Zamiyah Hodges, Takaiyah Bacon, Mischa Wardlaw, and Sanaya Lewis wrecked havoc in the 1st half to build a 11 point lead going into the half.

The Lady Barons traveled to Thomas University to take on the Night Hawks in conference play on January 7, 2025. The Lady Barons went on the road and cruised to a dominant victory over the Night Hawks, taking the game 71-40. The Lady Barons, led by an outstanding performance from Destanee Wright, scoring 20 points, elevated them to their fourth conference win, bringing the Lady Barons to 4-1 in conference play and currently second place.

The Barons traveled to Thomasville to take on the Night Hawks on January 7, 2025, and despite a thrilling back-and-forth game, the Barons could not complete the comeback they started at the end of the first half. The Barons did everything in their power to overcome the deficit they found themselves in, and they tied the game up just before halftime. They even hit a three to take the lead late in the game before the Night Hawks tied the game with under two minutes to go.
