“It’s just letting us know what they see in the field, and I have no problem with that,” one election official said of previous DOJ monitoring. “They’re just doing their jobs like I am.”

The contest pitted two veterans against each other in a swing seat that Democrats held by five points after 2022 redistricting.

“I think the economy was a huge issue; I think inflation is real,” said Virginia House Speaker Don Scott.

The standards were developed by the state’s Board of Education over the last two years and approved this summer.

“These decisions we’re making not only set the parameters of ALPRs, but the parameters for the future of mass surveillance in the Commonwealth,” Ruby Cherian with the Legal Aid Justice Center told the committee.

“There are a lot of college students going under the radar, who are food insecure, can’t access food and are probably embarrassed to say so,” Delegate Rae Cousins told Radio IQ.

Virginia's Commission to End Hunger was started this year with the hope of addressing food insecurity.

"Maybe there’s no need for legislation, but this at least gives us something, some knowledge,” committee chair Delegate Charniele Herring told Radio IQ.

The debate over skill games is moving from the committee room to the courtroom.

“I’m not gonna sit by idle. I’m not going away,” former Senator Amanda Chase said.
