Ansley/Litchfield and Twin Loup were among the wrestling teams that competed at the Pleasanton Invite on Saturday. Central Valley was team champion with 191.5 points followed by Kearney in second and Loomis was third. Among the area highlights, Cazen Smith of Twin Loup finished fourth at 157 lbs. The Broken Bow wrestling team finished fourth at the Wood River Duals on Saturday. The Indians finished with a 2-3 record on the day. Broken Bow edged Raymond Central in round one 38-35 and defeated Gibbon in Round 2 47-35. Broken Bow’s losses came to Aquinas Catholic of David City 44-36, Pierce 53-24, and to Syracuse 52-24. South Loup vs Sandhills/Thedford South Loup hosted Sandhills/Thedford for a girls and boys basketball doubleheader Thursday night in Arnold. The South Loup boys won their seventh in a row pulling away in the second half for a 47-32 win. South Loup led 29-25 at half but held S/T scoreless in the 4th quarter and outscored the Knights 18-7 in the second half. South Loup was led by Crew Witthuhn who had a game high 22 points. Conner Paulsen also finished in double figures for the Bobcats with 12. Sandhills/Thedford was led by Brady Haake and Maurice Robinson who each finished with eight points. The Sandhills/Thedford girls collected their 7th win of the season with a 61-29 win. The Lady Knights were led by Laney Dahlberg who scored a game high 19 and Karley Haake also finished in double figures for S/T with 15. South Loup was led by Emma Stallbaumer who finished with a team high 12 points.

Ansley/Litchfield will host Twin Loup for a girls and boys basketball doubleheader today in Litchfield. Today’s games will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and boys game to follow. Burwell hosted its annual wrestling invitational on Friday. Central Valley was the team champion with 206 points and Burwell was runner up with 188.5. SEM placed in the top ten finishing 7th with 75.5 points. Burwell had two individual champions on the day. Brody Jensen was champion at 113 lbs. and Austin Mayfield was champion at 138 lbs. The Longhorns had three runner up finishes including Kolton Thoene at 144 lbs., Cort Buss at 150 lbs., and Cale Buss at 215. Other area highlights included Maddox Jones of SEM winning the championship at 175 lbs. The Mustangs had two other medalists in the top four including Clayton Scoville 4th at 120 lbs., and Heath Henson was 4th at 150 lbs. Ansley/Litchfield had two medal winners in the top four. Isaac O’Brien was third at 175 lbs. and Andy Cash was third for the Spartans at 285. Wyatt Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City was runner up at 190 lbs. and Joseph Ducker was 4th at 157 lbs. for the Rebels. Cazen Smith of Twin Loup placed 3rd at 150 lbs.
Ansley/Litchfield vs Twin Loup Ansley/Litchfield hosted Twin Loup for a girls and boys basketball doubleheader Friday night in Litchfield. In the boys game, Twin Loup collected it’s 8th win of the season holding off Ansley/Litchfield in overtime 65-56. The game was tied at 52-52 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Henry Sortum of Twin Loup knocked down two 3’s and was 4 of 8 from the free throw line scoring ten of Twin Loup’s thirteen points in overtime as the Wolves outscored Ansley/Litchfield 13-4 in the extra session to secure the win. Twin Loup’s Yahya Harris led all scorers with 32 points. Harris scored 21 in the first half including 16 in the second quarter knocking down five 3’s in the opening half. Ansley/Litchfield’s Luke Bailey tried to bring the Spartans back in the second half. Bailey scored six points in the first half but scored 21 in the second half to help force overtime. Twin Loup improves to 8-3 on the season while Ansley/Litchfield falls to 5-7. In the girls game, Ansley/Litchfield opened on a 10-0 run but Twin Loup battled back to make the score 18-16 at halftime. The Lady Spartans were able to hold off Twin Loup in the second half collecting a 35-28 win. Kerry Ryan of Ansley/Litchfield led all scorers with ten points. Twin Loup was led by Ragan Mauler who had a team high nine.
