Researchers at TU Graz have developed design guidelines to make traction batteries safer and easier to repair and recycle. Their analysis shows that repair-friendly designs can pay off economically and environmentally if only 8% of the battery cells are reused.

Hyundai has opened reservations for the Ioniq 3 in the UK, where the compact electric hatchback will be available with two battery sizes. The larger 61 kWh battery is expected to deliver up to 308 miles of range, with prices starting at £22,245.

Hyundai EV drivers in the US can now charge for 10% less across the Ionna network. The discount is automatically applied via Plug & Charge or Hyundai's in-app charging service. On top of that, Ionna offers another 10% discount until the end of September.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved a new $95.2 million investment under the state's Clean Transportation Program. The largest share, $48 million, is intended for charging infrastructure for electric cars, while commercial vehicles, hydrogen refuelling and workforce training will also receive support.

Walmart now operates EV fast chargers at 100 of its stores across 20 US states. Most locations have eight to 16 charging points with up to 400 kW, fitted with both CCS and NACS connectors.

California utility PG&E is opening its residential vehicle-to-everything programme to more electric cars and charging systems. Models from Kia, Volvo, Polestar and Nissan are among the additions, while some vehicle-charger combinations qualify for incentives of up to $13,000.

Octillion Power Systems has opened its third battery factory in India. The new plant in Gujarat has an annual capacity of more than 3 GWh and will supply battery systems for electric cars, commercial vehicles and buses.

Tesla's driverless ride-hailing service has attracted complaints from users in Texas over unusually long routes and missed destinations. One passenger was quoted 66 minutes for a 2.3-mile journey, while another says he was dropped off three miles from where he wanted to go.

Tesla has increased prices for two of the three Cybertruck variants in the US. The entry-level AWD model now costs $74,990 – $15,000 more than when the version launched in February.

APM Terminals is electrifying more of the equipment at its container terminal in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The company has ordered 96 electric yard trucks from Orange EV as well as 34 electric gantry cranes from Konecranes.
