Veteran school clerk Deanna Myron was targeted for layoff for her union work. We’re delighted to report that we’ve secured a favorable settlement in Deanna’s arbitration and ULP cases opposing her layoff.

This mayor continues to refuse to provide students with what they need in their classrooms and school communities — while the mayor’s campaign strong arms educators to try to line up those students as unpaid campaign staff. This is exploitative and wrong on so many levels – and one more reason Lori Lightfoot does not deserve a second term as mayor.

Last night, the House of Delegates held its first meeting of the new year, and delegates dug into a number of important issues that we want to summarize for members. Randi Weingarten, who heads up union of 1.7 million teachers and support staff, to join educators, allies to demand CPS parental leave that mirrors what mayor offered to City workers – but has now been indefinitely delayed for educators, support staff.

Nothing prevents expanded parental leave from happening for our educators and support staff — except for the mayor’s obvious bias towards our overwhelmingly female and female-oriented workers in our schools.

Earlier today, we sent a letter to Emily’s List president Laphonza Butler and her board members, urging them to reverse course on their endorsement of Lori Lightfoot, at least until the mayor does what’s right by tens of thousands of public workers in CPS.
