Baseload for Tuesday was last seen in a bid-ask range of EUR 127-134/MWh on the EEX, while the prior settlement stood at EUR 115.07/MWh – its highest level since 3 June.

Baseload for Thursday was last seen in a bid-ask range of EUR 70.25/MWh on the EEX exchange, compared with the prior day-ahead settlement of EUR 125.84/MWh.

Such extreme temperatures could empty storage facilities by February, it added in a statement, basing its estimates on a particularly cold winter such as 2009-10, when lows of -24C were recorded.

Montel Analytics estimated day-ahead prices would average around EUR 99/MWh this week, up from last week's average of EUR 98.32/MWh.

Baseload for Thursday was last seen in a bid-ask range of EUR 111-117.50/MWh on the EEX exchange, compared with the prior day-ahead settlement of EUR 80.94/MWh.

The unit, one of Germany's biggest lignite-fired power plants, was taken offline on 1 September with an initial restart planned for 31 October.

Montel Analytics estimated day-ahead prices would average around EUR 78/MWh this week. Last week, spot prices averaged EUR 79.83/MWh, with slightly negative hourly prices on Tuesday and the weekend amid healthy renewables output.
