As the Planning Board wrapped up its over two-hour meeting Tuesday night, Board Chair Michael Doherty and Board member David Sutton announced they were resigning.

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield man who admitted to drowning a cat in a trash bin in late July was arraigned Monday in Hampden County Superior Court after being indicted for felony animal cruelty and felony animal death by drowning, according to court records.

The principals of Pioneer Valley Trading Co., the recreational cannabis store working through the permitting process to open in town, made their first appearance in front of the Planning Board and they were “excited to get it going.”

At a Parks and Recreation Commission last August, it appeared the installation of a splash pad at Whalley Park would start in October, over 17 months since being approved by Town Meeting. October came and went, and once again, it’s not clear when the project will break ground.

After a ruling by the federal Environmental Protection Agency last October that every lead or copper water line in the country must be replaced in 12 years, the DPW is continuing its effort to verify the materials used in the water service lines of every home in town with a new initiative.
