Even though games at Toronto Stadium are now finished, and south of the border the tournament is heading into its final matches, several FIFA World Cup installations are still in place around the city. One that adds colour to the ever-popular Harbourfront Centre area is a walk festooned with flags from all 48 qualifying countries, leading people from Queens Quay south to the water.

In Toronto's West End, work on a new linear public space known as the "Davenport Greenway" has been progressing slowly since construction began in the summer of 2025. The greenway — community gathering spaces stretched out along a multi-use path — is being built under and beside the Barrie GO line's new Davenport Diamond Grade Separation, an elevated viaduct and berm.

As Northern Ontario forests and settlements disappear in a wall of flame, the result of the combustion now fills our sky. Stay indoors as much as you can, and consider sending a message to your elected officials to let them know that economic decisions made without heed for environmental consequences are not what you are looking for in your future.

It's another beautiful day in Toronto, where we're not at all affected by the choices made by the provincial government to cut forest fire-fighting budgets, or federal government policy that underplays concerns around climate change, or America's gutted environmental controls that affect weather patterns across borders. Breathe it all in!

There are so many tall buildings in Downtown Toronto, one can block the view of the one you really want to see... so when you find a new place to get a great photo, it's always a plus. In this case, Canada's tallest building, SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge, can be seen climbing over 18 Yonge in this view from the new park over the rail tracks at CIBC SQUARE. If you stay on the sidewalk and don't go exploring, you'll never find this angle!

This weekend public will be welcomed into 10 additional acres of the year-old Biidaasige Park. Opened to acclaim, and love, last summer, the park around the new, naturalized mouth of the Don River is about to add a harbourside extension, one that greens the former industrial landscape while honouring its past with a restored Atlas cargo crane.

Orange Functional is the name of Alexandre Arrechea's basketball tree, an art installation that doubles as a play feature, it's part of the Lassonde Art Trail at Biidaasige Park in Toronto's Port Lands. Situated at one of the Commissioners Street entrances to the park — the first chunk of the park that opened to acclaim last summer — the many-hooped orange steel and netted object makes for both an eye-catching element, and a challenge to basketball players to get the ball in ever-higher hoops.

The Drum at Biidaasige Park — designed by Tawaw Architecture Collective — is both a shade structure for the picnic area next to it in the east end of the park, and a ceremonial space for Indigenous events such as storytelling, elders meets, drum circles and more, and in fact the 13-sided structure itself — representing the lunar calendar — forms a sheltering circle.

On the shore of Toronto Harbour where previously there was a concrete edge with industrial uses behind it, a chunk of that disused port space is now being put to an entirely different use, as a shallow wetland cove, favoured by fish and other aquatic life that once thrived here. Replete with salvaged trees and littoral vegetation, the fish and more are coming back. West Cove can be seen, skyline backdrop and all, from the northwest corner of the Biidaasige Park extension.

Toronto Harbour was first known as Toronto Bay, before its edges were hardened and its use was increasingly tied to the transport of goods.
