Skokie and Glencoe were two of 12 Illinois communities honored by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Commonwealth Edison for completing a new electronic vehicle readiness program.

“We are moving some things around,” Village Manager Phil Kiraly said at the Dec. 21 Village Board meeting. “A lot of the same faces and some new names will be added into the mix.”

Northwestern University librarian Ted Quiballo has been chosen as one of 10 recipients of the American Library Association’s annual I Love My Librarian Award for his work helping educate student inmates and provide STEM opportunities for refugee children.

“With all of these fees we are catching up to inflation, cost of living and our costs,” Village President Howard Roin said after the meeting.

“He comforted a lot of people and I think he inspired a lot of people,” Bronstein said of his father. “One piece of the inspiration was pure hope. For many Jewish people who were never connected to the Jewish community, he brought them in not via coercion, but via example. He was just open to people.”

The new contract for the rank-and-file come months after the hiring of Sean Loughran, a Chicago Police Department veteran, as the new village’s public safety director. He took on the role following the retirement of Cary Lewandowski last year.

“Ridership levels are near all time highs,” Director of Finance and Operations Jason Edelheit said. “The increased fees did not have any impact on ridership.”

On Jan. 18, Glencoe Village Board Trustees unanimously approved an ordinance seeking to prevent one-way stops of buses of 10 or more people.

“We walked in the space,” co-owner Christine Cikowski said. “It was so welcoming, bright and (we) saw its potential. We also walked around the downtown area and it feels like a small town even though it is a village.”
