KING WILLIAM — King William County paid more than half a million dollars to consultants to run operations in the last financial year after its county administrator quit, according to records.

Derek Stamey, who became King William County’s administrator in March, pledges to be more transparent in his role as he works to pull the county out of its troubled financial past.

The $513,956 included the salary of an acting country administrator who received $207,600 for the time he worked from June 2025 until early March 2026.

NEW KENT — New Kent County residents who responded to a recent survey on what they want in their community overwhelmingly said no to data centers.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will start lowering speed limits in the Interstate 64 construction zone from New Kent County into James City County, raising the prospect of more dollar-generating speed cameras.
