With the sun beating down on a hot summer’s day in Liberal in 1987, I headed back to the cement truck with a wheelbarrow after having just dumped my previous load.

HOOKER, Okla. — What started as a runaway ended in a scare for the Lady Redskins, but Liberal was able to escape with a 39-34 win.

HOOKER, Okla. — No matter how many times Liberal tried to make a run, the Hooker Bulldogs had an answer. The Bulldogs found their way to the rim all night, and when they opted to launch a three, those shots also found the net in a 75-37 loss for the Redskins.

Trailing by five in the fourth quarter, the Lady Redskins fought back to force overtime before dominating Great Bend in the bonus period to claim a 52-44 win.

Liberal shot out to a big lead against Great Bend Friday night, but all the work of building a lead disappeared late in the first half, and despite trailing by only one after the third quarter, Liberal fell 70-62.

After the seniors were recognized for their contributions to Liberal wrestling, the Liberal wrestlers found little success on the mat against Dodge City.
