New Oxford hosted a five-way cross country meet on Tuesday afternoon, and the Ox saw some good things starting to emerge.

By the time New Oxford had run five plays on Friday night, and taken just 5:18 off the clock, the Colonials led York Suburban 20-0. They went on to earn ‘mercy rule' status in the second half as the Ox crushed Suburban 41-6.

A nice mix of passing and running drove Littlestown to a 14-0 halftime lead, but it was the legs of Logan Conaway that was the story in the second half, as the Bolts went on to defeat Hanover on Friday night, 27-7, at Sheppard-Myers Field.

On numerous occasions I have given talks about hiking. I have spoken to church groups and Scout troops, retirement communities and middle school students. I have presented at libraries, fire halls, and colleges. Most often, I speak about my experiences on the Appalachian Trail. Other topics have included Grandma Gatewood, the history of the AT in Central Pennsylvania, and hiking experiences in our national parks. I have even been featured on a podcast that features all things AT.

After countless days of rain and foggy skies, the sun finally came out on Saturday for the annual Gettysburg Cross Country Invitational. The crystal blue, cloudless sky greeted 1,240 high school and middle school runners to one of the top invitationals in central Pennsylvania. The meet, first run in 1988, has undergone several challenges over the years, like coaching changes and Covid, and missed a couple of years, but the excitement and intensity of the carnival of cross county is back, and has not changed.

The YAIAA Cross Country Championships were held on Tuesday afternoon, in York, and the race was on for medals and qualifying spots in the upcoming District III meet. South Western's girls were easily the class of the field.
