Every four years, a soccer tournament arrives to remind us that civilization is mostly a polite fiction, held together by breakfast beers, polyester jerseys, ancient grudges and the shared belief that shouting at a television can somehow influence events thousands of miles away. For nearly six weeks, offices become sports bars, sports bars become embassies and group chats become international tribunals. Otherwise reasonable people will develop deeply held opinions about flopping and claim lifelo
