Kayla and Mara Winfrey need about 15 gallons of hot chocolate each year to meet demand during their annual fundraiser to benefit Toys for Tots. Their mother, Maureen Winfrey, is in charge of hot chocolate production during the event.

Flossmoor board meetings often lasted two or more hours during much of 2024, and at the last meeting of the year on Dec. 16, trustees agreed to an earlier start time to help compensate, although one resident questioned whether the new time would be conducive to attendance at both village board and school board meetings.

On Christmas Eve, a crew was working to regrade the bottom of the Heather Hill detention basin in Flossmoor to correct a problem that resulted in pooling water in the structure that was built during the summer months.

Heather Hill residents were increasingly engaged with the Village of Flossmoor and with each other last year, primarily over the building of a controversial storm water detention basin in their midst, and in November they took a step to build on that effort, forming the Heather Hill Civic Association.
