Dubuque County Authorities called to a house fire early this morning. According to the Sheriff's Office, the call came around 5:24 this morning to a house fire at 19998 Hochreien Road. Sherrill Fire Department, Holy Cross Fire Department, Asbury Fire Department, Farley Fire Department and the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office responded to a structure fire. Homeowner, Lois Klein, awoke to the smell of smoke and found the house and a nearby machine shed on fire. She was able to exit the residence without injury. A dog did not make it out of the house. The home is a total loss and the machine shed sustained significant damage. The total loss is estimated at $550,000. At this time, it is unknown what caused the fire.

After a cold start to the morning this morning with temperatures in the teens and 20s, the Treasure Valley will enjoy sunny and calm weather this week. High pressure will keep things dry with highs in the mid to upper 30s to low 40s and lows in the 20s and teens. By the weekend, we will see temperatures cool down 5-10 degrees below average.

The 2025 Iowa legislature convenes later this morning and Republican lawmakers, holding super majorities in both the House and the Senate, say setting new limits on property taxes is their top priority. House Speaker Pat Grassley says it's time for a broad conversation that shifts the focus to providing certainty for property tax payers. “I also want to be very aggressive and bold in our approach to this, because Iowans have an expectation and they've seen from the legislature when we work on big things, we've been able to achieve results,” Grassley says. House Republican Leader Matt Windschitl (wind-SHIT-ull) says during the 2024 campaign, lawmakers heard from property owners in every corner of the state.

Linn County Authorities responded to a one vehicle rollover accident near Center Point Saturday morning. According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received the call around 10:30 Saturday morning. Deputies, along with Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, Center Point Fire and Center Point Ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident in the 4900 Block of Alice Rd. Emergency personnel arrived on scene to discover a Gray 2007 Nissan Murano on its top. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been traveling northbound on Alice Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle entering the east ditch. The vehicle came back onto the roadway and the entered the west ditch before rolling onto its top back on the roadway.
