This week at the Tryon Theatre is “Conclave,” a tremendously well-crafted film that will certainly end up on the shortlist for Oscar contention, most notably in recognition of the pristine performances from the cast.

This week at the Tryon Theatre is “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” the first film to kick off our holiday programming. This film is based on the identically titled best-selling book, which received great praise for its message and family-friendly fun. The film adaptation of the story is no different from its literary inspiration, providing a charmingly silly, sweet, and cheerful film, celebrating the holidays and the charitable spirit associated with them.

This week at The Tryon Theatre, we are pairing nostalgic Christmas favorites: the holiday comedies Elf (Favreau 2003) and A Christmas Story (Clark 1983). Both films are firmly set on many a family's Christmas rewatch list. They are both family-friendly, with cheer and goofy charm to spare. However, they also hide plenty of wordplay and incorporate a deeper reflection on childhood that adults will appreciate.

This week at the Tryon Theatre is “Wicked” (Chu 2024), the big musical of this year's holiday season, chock full of catchy and emotionally moving songs. This film is an adaptation of the broadway musical Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz (2003), written by Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz's musical was received to vocal and broad acclaim, both critical and commercial, winning three Tony awards and the cast album itself winning a Grammy award. The filmic adaptation has premiered to an equally stellar reception, with audiences and critics alike celebrating its powerful performances and earnestly skillful translation to the silver screen.
