A Fieldstone Drive man told police Nov. 22 he responded to a command on his computer telling him to “Call Microsoft” and was soon connected to a scammer to whom he granted access to his computer, resulting in substantial financial loss. He followed a series of directions involving his purchase of Bitcoin before realizing he was being scammed. He told police he's only out $2,500, which is fortunate as he withdrew $15,000 from one of his accounts before realizing what was happening. He has since contacted Bitcoin to file a fraud claim. A police report was made for documentation only.

On Dec. 4, a caller on Post Road reported her car parked near the Scarsdale library was stolen. After searching a nearby parking lot, police located it. The reporting party remained firm in her belief someone, somehow, broke into it and moved it. Security footage obtained from the library revealed no one had moved the car.

A woman went to police headquarters Dec. 14 to report her wallet was missing. She said the last time she used it was at a doughnut shop on Knollwood Road.

Criminal mischief, burglary and grand larceny were reported Dec. 19 on Birchall Drive after the resident returned home to find her back door smashed and broken glass. Police advised her to wait outside until their arrival. Reported stolen were a ring valued at $10,000; a wedding band valued at $600; earrings valued at $1,000; a pair of earrings valued at $40,000; a bracelet valued at $40,000 and other miscellaneous jewelry items valued at $1,000. Entry was made through a rear door that was damaged. The destroyed door was valued at $2,000. Police are investigating.

Burglary was reported at a home on Tamarack Trail Dec. 31. The residents, who were out of town, arrived home to find their electricity shut off and a sliding glass door smashed. Police say the outside electric meter had been disconnected. The homeowner reported handbags, jewelry, shoes and cash valued at over $100,000 were stolen from the primary bedroom. Multiple security cameras throughout the house were deactivated when the electricity was disconnected. A crime scene roster was completed and detectives are investigating.

A caller Jan. 6 reported two cars that seemed unable to make it up Mamaroneck Road near Park Road. Police arrived and saw one car was disabled by weather conditions. Traffic was stopped so she could maneuver her car. Two minutes later, dispatch received a report of another car stranded on Mamaroneck Road at the intersection of Deerfield Lane. This car spun out and drove over a curb and was partly off the road with blown out tires. A tow truck responded and took the car back to the owner's residence.

On Jan. 6, police arrested a man, 38, on S. Central Avenue, who was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Alerted by county police about a white rental U-Haul van with Arizona license plates being sought by Newark, New Jersey, police, a Greenburgh police officer on patrol spotted the van in the area of Ardsley Road and S. Central Avenue. The van was parked and unoccupied in front of a diner. Additional units were summoned and police waited for the driver to appear. He was surrounded as he entered the van and police arrested him. During a search of the van, a black bookbag containing 30 assorted pills believed by their distinctive markings to be MDMA were found. The driver was released on a desk appearance ticket to be in court Jan. 23. The van was entered into EJustice as recovered. Newark police notified the van's owner of the vehicle's location.
