The Interlaken Fire has reached 96 percent containment. The remaining 4 percent will be allowed to burn towards an established fire line.

Two Leadville residents, a man and a woman, were shot on Friday, Aug. 30. The Leadville Police Department (LPD) and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to calls just before midnight of shots fired at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was transported to a Denver area medical facility for treatment. His status is currently unknown.

Dominic Gallegos, the 18-year-old Lake County male wanted for Felony Menacing, turned himself in to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) shortly after 10 am on Sept. 11. Gallegos is a person of interest in a potential threat to school safety.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) interviewed Dominic Gallegos, the Lake County resident accused of making threats towards the Lake County Schools, after he turned himself in on an unrelated warrant on Sept. 11. Gallegos was released the same day on bond for the warrant. LCSO is investigating the claim that Gallegos made threats which they said has not yet been proven.

The Lake County High School football team played their final game of the 2024 season on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Vail Christian High School of Edwards. The Panthers lost 55-0 and finished the season 0-9. Lake County’s football program returned in 2023 after a hiatus and competed only in junior varsity. This was the program’s first season at the varsity level since its return.
