Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, whose Second Congressional District includes northeastern Nevada, was in a good mood last week when he spoke about his priorities for the next two years.

Nevada’s senators likely won’t swing any confirmation decisions. But the process is their chance to take a stance on Trump’s policies via personnel.

The president-elect said he would end taxes on tips for hospitality workers, deport undocumented immigrants and open up land for housing.

While a number of smaller priorities passed in the final week, the big lands bills got left on the chopping block.

Democrats and Republicans in Nevada don’t agree on much, but they do agree that more housing is needed across the state — and that the state’s vast swaths of federal land should be a part of the solution.
