The Guilford girls' ice hockey team opened its season on Dec. 10 at home vs. West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy, falling 3-2 in a hard-fought game from start to finish.

Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened at 611 Boston Post Road in Madison on Dec. 11.

Westbrook Athletic Boosters is thrilled to host the inaugural Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Westbrook High School. There is limited space available, so teams are encouraged to sign up online soon and pre-pay to secure a spot.

At the 2024 Sports Awards Night at Westbrook on Nov. 26, several field hockey athletes were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the season. For the varsity team, Eimy Novillo and Brooke Ouellette earned Most Valuable Player, Selina Erekson was Most Improved Player, and Bella Ziegler got the Coaches' Award.

At the Field Hockey All-State Banquet on Dec. 3, three Westbrook student-athletes were recognized for standing out among their peers on the turf this fall. Eimy Novillo earned Second Team All-State Honors, and Brooke Ouellette and Grace Vincent were named to the First Team.

The Field Hockey All-State Banquet took place on Dec. 3, and several athletes were recognized for being in an elite group among their peers. One of the athletes who has honored was Old Saybrook's Ayla D'Anna, who was named to the All-State Second Team for her efforts on the turf this fall.

Maddhouse Lacrosse is offering a one-day clinic to be held in Guilford on Monday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. The instructors of the clinic are four former All-State local players - attackers, midfielders, and defense - who are currently playing Division 1 collegiate lacrosse. The instructors include Maddie Epke, junior attacker/draw specialist at James Madison University and USA U20 world champion, Kat Baseggio, sophomore defender at University of Delaware, Lydia Doraz, sophomore midfielder at University of Vermont, and Payton Root, freshman attacker at James Madison University.

On Dec. 19, the team hosted Cromwell and took a 52-44 loss. Savoy scored 14 points, Robinson scored 11, Evans added eight, Moriarty had seven, and Marica scored four.

Owen Pelletier-Stephens competed at 165 pounds and won by fall, while Garrett Mace (175 pounds) earned a win by fall. Jonah Labbadia-Colon (victory by fall) competed at 215 pounds, and Logan Murphy (285 pounds) also won by fall.

On Dec. 18, the Hand boys' ice hockey team traveled to Guilford and earned a 5-2 win. Charles Wood III got the Tigers on the board with a score assisted by Matthew Gervais. In the second period, Nick Lyons knocked in a score assisted by Gervais, and Gervais added a goal of his own assisted by Anthony Albino. In the third frame, Wood III scored two unassisted goals. William Diana recorded 30 saves in net.
