The Planning Commission is expected to retain the Single Family Resident unit size standard of 725 square feet. The commission discussed this at a meeting last March, where they addressed comparisons in 26 other California cities, where trends in new homes exceed 1000 feet but vary widely from jurisdiction, zoning district, neighborhood, and bedroom count, while some cities rely solely on the California Building Code Minimums. Additional dwelling units and tiny homes on wheels would remain exempt from this 725 square foot standard.

While it was recommended that the Planning Commission retain the Single-Family Resident minimum dwelling unit size standard of 725-square feet, local contractor Neil Rauschenberg got on the mic for public comment asking the Commission to take pause, stating that “this is a great chance for the town to align its housing policy with its affordability goals.”

Bad roads tend to be one challenging aspect of living in the otherwise beautiful hi-desert, especially in our unincorporated rural areas where county maintenance isn't guaranteed. A group of Morongo Valley neighbors recently took matters into their own hands to smooth out their roads in a collective effort after attempting to create a special roads district through the area. Reporter Gabriel Hart spoke to Daniel Polk who spearheaded the recent road repair on Navajo Trail, with guidance from Bradley Garrett of the Rawson Road Improvement group who also recently gave Rawson Road its first of many repairs.
