AZLE – The Aledo Bearcats, No. 1 in the state in Class 5A Division I, faced off against a resurgent Azle Hornets squad in a battle of seven-win teams Friday Night. Aledo entered Hornet Stadium swarming with excited Azle fans, but the buzzing energy soon dissipated as the Bearcats quickly took control of the district contest early.

In their final regular season contest, the Aledo Bearcats, No. 1 in the state, hosted the Denton Broncos at Tim Buchanan Stadium on Friday, Nov. 8. Aledo saw plenty of players on the roster contribute to a resounding 62-0 victory before the Bearcats start the postseason quest for a third consecutive Class 5A Division I state championship.

The hardwood season has just tipped off throughout Texas high school basketball gymnasiums and local hoop squads such as the Aledo Ladycats and the Weatherford Lady Kangaroos have stepped onto the hardwood to begin their respective 2024-25 campaigns.

The Aledo Ladycats continued their march through the postseason after capturing victories over Birdville and Burleson in the bi-district and area rounds, respectively. In their regional semifinal bout, the Ladycats faced off against the Amarillo Sandies, the No. 1 team in the state in Class 5A Division I by the Texas Girls Coaches Association at the Western Texas College Coliseum in Snyder.

The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team continued its postseason run with a trip to the state semifinals Tuesday night at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland against the McKinney North Lady Bulldogs. The match was thrilling, hard-fought and closely contested throughout, and the teams went the distance to decide the match. In the end, the Lady Bulldogs edged the Ladycats by two points in the decisive fifth set. Aledo fell by a final score of 21-25, 25-19, 13-25, 26-24 and 15-13.

Local schools looking to build on previous success
