The national historic district designation that has been received for the downtown Searcy district does not include all of the downtown side streets, “but it does include a large swath of the downtown district from the north side of the courthouse on Race and then on Arch, all the way down Spring Street," according to Amy Burton, executive director of Main Street Searcy.

The city of Searcy has received 1,547 “internal and external” requests since publicly launching searcyhelpdesk.com in December as a way for issues to be reported to the city, with the vast majority of the requests having to do with sanitation needs.

Niementowski told the Searcy City Council last Thursday that the board of the Humane Society of Searcy met recently and is working on a proposal for the expansion. He said once that proposal is put together, the board will get that information to the council. He said the board would probably be asking for a partnership to help take care of the cost.

Forward Searcy received 27 requests for information from the state in 2024 with a potential for 5,200 jobs and $8.9 million in capital investments, according to Darrell Welch, CEO of the community group that was established to drive economic development.

The city of Bald Knob owes more than $8,000 to the IRS for a late filing fee, according to Mayor Gary Looney.

Davis told the Bald Knob School Board last week that a meeting had been held regarding the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Career Technical Education grant with five or six state officials. High School Principal Lisa Moor and Davis were at the meeting along with four students who were interviewed and someone from the community who deals with agriculture, he said. They all walked around the campus.

“I’m not one of these people that like rumors swirling around. I’d rather you just hear it from the horse’s mouth or the horse’s rear, whichever you want,” Miller said. “I’ve met with the [county] judge [Lisa Brown]. I’ve talked to my staff. But I wanted to inform all of you that you get to deal with me for one year and 11 more months. At that time, at the end of this term, I will be retiring as sheriff.
