n Frederick at Middletown: The only matchup between Frederick County teams on the opening-week schedule features two teams with state-championship aspirations. Both return a good nucleus of players that reached the state quarterfinals in their respective classifications last season. Middletown is looking to snap a two-game slide against the Cadets. Frederick beat the Knights 42-14 in 2022 and 29-12 last season. Both of the those games, due to a quirk in the schedule, were played at Frederick.
Last season, Oakdale did all of the little things well on the way to achieving big things, as the Bears produced the first 14-0 season in school history and won the Class 2A state championship.
