With Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaching on Monday, Jan. 15, a variety of events on campus are commemorating and celebrating the holiday throughout the week.

MSU’s Department of Police and Public safety– or MSUDPS– issued 97,585 parking citations in 2023, bringing in $1,375,686,62 to the university. The MSU Board of Trustees approved to raise parking violation fines early this summer yet this did not deter students from committing violations.

Over the course of the 2023 fall semester, there were three cases of robbery on MSU’s campus and 202 cases of larceny–theft without force. In the city of East Lansing, there were 10 cases of robbery, 186 cases of larceny and 43 cases of vehicle theft, according to city crime logs.

MSU Chief of Police Chris Rozman was at his home the night of Feb. 13 when he first got word that there was a potential active shooter on campus. Now, first responders from the night of Feb. 13 look back at their experiences from that night.

The MSU Latinx Film Festival hosted activist and artist Manuel Oliver, whose 17-year-old son, Joaquin Oliver, was fatally shot in 2018 at Parkland High School.

MSU Department of Police and Public Safety released an active violence incident awareness training video March 25th. The training emphasized the run-hide-fight response model, what to expect from officers when responding to an active violence incident, as well as reporting concerning or threatening behavior to the MSU Care and Intervention Team.

Many students were left panicked and confused after a heavy police presence on campus on March 7 that was due to a hoax call regarding a bomb and weapons threat.

Although cannabis is commonly known for its recreational use, 'lighting up'has more uses and benefits than people may know.

A report is set to be released this evening calling into question the death of Brendan Santo, a Grand Valley State University student who went missing on MSU’s campus in October of 2021. Oakland County's Chief Medical Examiner Ljubisa Dragovic believes Santo’s case should have been left ‘undetermined’ rather than closed, as no water was found in his lungs during the autopsy.
