Joe Merkle of Mountain Home has learned a lot about the grieving process since he has become a volunteer at Hospice of the Ozarks, but most of that learning has come after the fact.

This past weekend, my friend Elesha and I spent a long weekend in St. Louis. We are both fans of glass artist Dale Chihuly, so we planned for a trip to the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis to catch the “Chihuly in the Garden” exhibit. We were fortunate enough to score tickets to a nighttime exhibit, where all the glass installations were lit up. To experience the whole place from sunset to dark was simply spectacular.

During a brief special work session Tuesday night, the Mountain Home School Board met to address work issues and missed deadlines as part of a track resurfacing project at Mountain Home High School, around the football field of Bomber Stadium.

As Mountain Home High School (MHHS) houses sophomores, juniors and seniors, freshman students at Mountain Home Junior High (MHJH) taking high school courses or participating in various clubs and activities routinely have to make the hike from the junior high to the high school.

“When you’ve raised a canine companion, you’re either always thinking about training another one, or you decide you never want to do it again,” said Matt Paden of the Canine Companions program.

I don’t know about you folks, but I have been enjoying the break in temperatures over the last couple of weeks.

For all that he has accomplished in his 72 years — both personally and professionally — Thomas “Tom” Eugene Knox has traveled extensively and has been generous with both his time and his philanthropic endeavors, locally as well as abroad.

It’s been just shy of two months since Dr. Bentley Wallace came onboard as the new chancellor of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home and to look at him, he seems to be settling in pretty well.
