Daviess County won their 5th consecutive Regional Championship after a 5-0 shutout against Hancock County. Kamrynn Timmons returned to the mound for the Lady Panthers and led the defense with 12 strikeouts to help keep Hancock scoreless. Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic both had players named to All–Tournament Team. The Owensboro-area players who made the team included:
The KHSAA State Track and Field Championships saw Daviess County’s women's team place 34th and Apollo’s women’s team place 37th in the Class 3A, and Owensboro Catholic’s women’s team placed 24th while the men’s team placed 40th. Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, Apollo, and Daviess County all had athletes and relay teams compete in various events. Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic all had athletes with top 10 finishes as well.

Owensboro High School alumnus Collier Higgs was selected to the Minority Baseball Prospects (MBP) All-Star Team for the third year in a row. Higgs and Team Michael Bourn defeated Team Carl Crawford 8-6 in the MBP HBCU All-Star Game in Houston, Texas over the weekend.
The Owensboro area had lots of representation at the 2024 KHSAA Tennis State Tournament as Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic all had players compete. Owensboro Catholic also competed in the Team Tournament where both the boys’ and girls’ teams both reached the quarterfinal round before being knocked out.

Daviess County’s performance at the plate earned them a big 13-0 win over Mercer County and a spot in the quarterfinals. The Lady Panthers racked up 16 total hits, 13 RBIs and a home run by Molly Hancock as well. DCHS will play Assumption in the quarterfinal round at 9 a.m. June 8.

Daviess County’s state run came to an end after they fell short against Assumption in a close 2-0 quarterfinal game. Daviess County moved runners on base throughout the game, but Assumption’s defense held them to just 1 hit. Annie Newman was also named to the All-Tournament Team after the game.

For the second night in a row Owensboro Catholic shocked the crowd with a walk-off RBI. This time around it was Houston Flynn who cracked the ball into left field to give the Aces the 2-1 victory. With this win Owensboro Catholic advanced to the Final Four where they will play McCracken County on June 14.

Owensboro Catholic battled it out against McCracken County for a spot in the state championship, but the Aces fell short in a close 9-7 defeat. Catholic fought back from a 5-1 deficit, but a 4-run inning by McCracken in the fifth was just enough to give the Mustangs the win. Brady Atwell and Barrett Evans were both named to the All-State team after the game as well.
The Owensboro Times is announcing its 2024 All-County Softball Team. The team features players from all five local high schools.

Owensboro Catholic’s own Olivia McPherson has signed to play collegiate golf for Brescia University in November. Mcpherson finished her senior season with the Lady Aces golf team this past fall where she helped OCHS to a 4th place finish at regionals.
