In February 1989, the Kingston Township Voyageurs finished first in the East Division of the Metro Junior B Hockey League.
When I was considering retirement early last spring, I wound up choosing a date in early August.
Which brings me to this photo, taken in early November 1988. As I drove by a farmer's field off Highway 15 just north of Joyceville, I was getting desperate after first driving to Napanee and not finding anything. Then I noticed two cows burying their heads in a hay bale, snacking away. I was a far distance away taking photos from the roadside with a telephoto lens, but the pair of bovines noticed me and we entered what seemed like a 15-minute staring contest. I stayed as still as possible during the staredown. One cow eventually went back to its eating while the cow on the left stared me down for the longest time. Realizing this was my best chance to bring back some type of quality photo, I stayed rigid, with my camera ready for the moment the cow stuck its head back in the hay bale, which would make a good two-photo combination.
