Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! It’s the holiday season, and comic day even happens to land squarely on Christmas this year. Sadly this means a lot of people will have to miss spending Christmas morning with their families in order to head to the comic shop instead. I’m sure they’ll understand. Similarly, those comic store employees will have to spend the entire day delivering comics to all the good little girls and boys. I understand that some might not like it, but it’s tradition.

I love detective stories. You’d think that a series called Detective Comics would consistently be one of my favorites for scratching that itch. And yet, surprisingly few runs on the title actually focus on detective work. Even some of my all time favorites just treat it as “the other Batman comic”. Taylor at the very least read the assignment correctly and has made his opening arc all about uncovering a mystery, complete with investigations and putting together clues. That’s step one. Step two is having the investigation make sense, which is where the issue struggles.

For some, that might mean finding a new job, moving to a new home, or starting a new relationship. For others, it might just mean getting some new comics. Are those comics good enough to remain the highlight of the whole year? Well, probably not, but we can always hope. Let’s see how we’ll be starting out 2025.
