Nearly ten years after it first arrived on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and about four years after the launch of current generation consoles, Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition is at last getting a fresh enhancement for modern hardware. This new version makes use of some of the most important features of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and will be arriving on both systems on October 15.

Enjoyers of difficult combat and tough bosses got a double helping of fun this summer. First, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree hit all its fans with some of the toughest encounters Fromsoft has ever made. After that, it was Black Myth: Wukong’s turn to not only skill check Elden Ring fans, but also show that there’s still a lot of unexplored territory in the soulslike genre. Now, with the releases of Phantom Blade Zero and others like it coming in the next year or so, it looks like the genre is about to take more than a few steps forward.

For the most part, Yakuza games suffer from a sort of split personality. While their stories focus heavily on character drama and (mostly) serious themes of life, honor and camraderie, the characters themselves are often larger than life and routinely wind up in crazy situations thanks to optional part-time jobs and side missions.

The Monster Hunter series has been on a bit of a tear over the last several years. First, Monster Hunter World took the series’ classic formula and took it to an even greater scale. Then Monster Hunter Rise, while scaling back a little, introduced new mechanics to make hunting giant monsters just that much more thrilling. Now, having had some hands-on time with Monster Hunter Wilds at TGS 2024, it’s become clear that Capcom is aiming for yet another big step forward with this entry.

When a genre is as old and established as the JRPG, it can be tempting to assume that there’s not all that much new to do anymore. Such thinking would be a mistake, though, as both new and seasoned developers alike are still finding ways to innovate. Fantasian Neo Dimension, the newest game from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, served as a great reminder of this for us as we tried out the demo at TGS 2024.

Even though Dragon Quest fans still have a bit of a wait ahead of them before Dragon Quest XII makes its debut, they only need to hold on until November for their next chance to enjoy something new in the series. Hardcore Gamer got hands-on time with this next game, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, during TGS 2024, and well, it looks like Dragon Quest fans will be pleased with what Square Enix has done here.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is no different in this regard, offering fans plenty of new games and features to play around with alongside a few beloved boards and minigames.
