The Samford football program practiced on the new turf field for the first time Thursday morning. The team has held a few walkthroughs on the new surface before, but it marked the first time suiting up and going to work.

It's also going to be another big weekend at Bryant-Denny Stadium as Alabama is set to reveal Saban Field in honor of legendary head coach Nick Saban. The official naming is set to take place during halftime of this weekend's game.

Samford University held mascot tryouts last week to bring the fun to the sidelines this new school year. Three students showed up to the event after being told when and where to show up. A panel of judges posed different scenarios and questions to gain a feel of how they would be in a game-like setting, among other things like interacting with kids. And, of course, it also came down to the dance moves.
