The global secondhand apparel industry, valued at USD 256B in 2025, is expanding rapidly. The growing acceptance of secondhand fashion and advancements in retail technology have driven millions of individuals to resell, yet little research has analyzed the motivations behind these decisions. Guided by Consumption Values Theory and Goal-Framing Theory, this qualitative study uses ten in-depth interviews with experienced resellers to examine why individuals participate in apparel reselling. Analysis of the participants' narratives indicates that financial gain is the dominant driver of participation, followed by the convenience provided by reselling platforms and channels, emotional satisfaction, and contributing to sustainability. Conceptually, the study integrates value-based and goal-based lenses to offer an extensive explanation of reseller motivations, shifting focus from the buyer perspective that has dominated prior research. Practically, the findings suggest that resale platforms can encourage participation by reducing visible fees, enabling faster payout, and simplifying the reselling process, while also making community and environmental benefits more visible. In all, these insights help retailers and sustainability advocates better design approaches that support individual resellers and sustain growth in apparel resale.

Background/Objectives: The widely recognized potential for biased responses to food frequency questionnaires and non-compliant self-reporting is motivating the search for alternative food intake records. The analysis of fecal DNA has been investigated as a potentially less biased and technically manageable method to replace or complement oral or written dietary surveys. The accuracy of fecal-DNA-based recalls critically depends on the persistence of ingested DNA of dietary origin during digestion. Methods: To inform the implementation of alternative molecular dietary inventories, we quantified the concentration of dietary DNA in the small intestine and in the feces of dogs, and in several sections of the mouse gastro-intestinal tract. Results: Using PCR assays specific for five ingredients used in commercial dog food and in mouse chow, we observed that fish DNA was most sensitive to digestion in the canine GI tract. In both species, DNA from corn and wheat was detectable in intestinal and in fecal samples. Perturbation of the mouse intestinal microbiota with antibiotics delayed the dietary DNA degradation in the GI tract. Conclusions: These results illustrate the limitations of DNA-based dietary recalls, underscoring their potential for generating biased information.

Background: Cutaneous wound infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) pose serious threats to public health. Nitric oxide (NO), an endogenous gaseous molecule with antibacterial and wound-healing properties, is a promising next-generation antimicrobial agent with a minimal risk of resistance. However, conventional S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO)-loaded formulations suffer from GSNO leakage, which could compromise the treatment effect or induce systemic side effects. Although conjugation strategies have been introduced to mitigate this issue, there is still a lack of GSNO-conjugated systems that simultaneously achieve high NO loading and sustained NO release while avoiding harsh external stimuli and complex multistep synthetic processes. Objectives: This research aims to develop a high NO-loading system produced through a simple synthetic process that provides sustained NO release without harsh external stimuli while preventing GSNO leakage for effective treatment of MRSA-infected wounds. Methods: We developed cellulose-based GSNO conjugates via a simple EDC/NHS-mediated covalent coupling to TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose (NC-GSNO). Results: The NC-GSNO hydrogel achieved high NO loading, minimal leakage, and sustained NO release for more than three days. This controlled NO delivery promoted enhanced wound healing in MRSA-infected models. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that the NC-GSNO hydrogel is a promising platform for controlled NO delivery and the effective treatment of MRSA-infected wounds.

E-scooters have rapidly become a popular option for first- and last-mile mobility, yet their integration into urban transportation systems has raised significant safety concerns. This study investigates the feasibility of permitting E-scooter riding on sidewalks under controlled conditions to minimize pedestrian conflicts. Analysis of E-scooter crashes in Daejeon, South Korea, showed that 98.09% of crashes were caused by rider negligence, with “Failure to Fulfill Safe Driving Duty” as the leading factor. To investigate the applicability of safe sidewalk usage, a VR-based simulator experiment was conducted with 41 participants across four scenarios with varying sidewalk widths and pedestrian densities, under speed limits of 10, 15, and 20 km/h. Riding behaviors—including speed stability, braking, steering, and conflict frequency—and gaze behaviors were measured. Results showed that riding at 10 km/h improved riding stability and minimized conflicts. Regression analysis identified pedestrian density as the strongest predictor of conflicts, followed by sidewalk width and riding speed. These findings suggest specific policy needs: ensuring a minimum sidewalk width of 4 m for safe shared use, restricting operation to environments with low-to-moderate pedestrian density, and implementing a 10 km/h speed limit. This study provides evidence-based recommendations for safer integration of E-scooters into pedestrian environments.
