The last decade has seen significant advances in the management of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) with the focus moving from a mainly chemotherapy-based approach to the use of targeted therapies. These therapies have the ability to specifically target the protein(s) involved in the growth and survival of the cancer cells. As a result of this significant advance in knowledge and treatment options, many patients with CLL are now able to receive treatment for prolonged periods of time, with the aim of achieving long term disease control and significantly improving the quality of life of the patient. As a result of these advances, CLL treatment drugs are currently receiving a lot of interest from healthcare professionals and patients alike.
