Fingers are crossed that the cold weather is behind us. Let the mud season begin. Our own road this week presented a bit of a challenge. Pockets of slop had us all in 4-wheel drive — never sure how far we would sink. Luckily, for homeowners along the road, Northport’s own Drexel Bailey was able to shuttle a number of loads of stone to the soft spots, saving the day. Thank you Drexel.

St Patrick’s Day is on the horizon. Get your fancy green garb ready for a day of celebration, Sunday March 17. Also, be on full alert for leprechauns roaming the area.

Staff and guests of the animal park near Santa Rosa treated Otto the young white rhinoceros to a song and a cardboard cake. Otto now tips the scales at more than 1,000 pounds.

A giraffe calf at Safari West in Santa Rosa who had been cared for by park staff since a feared infection at birth two weeks ago was reintroduced to her mother over the weekend.
