The Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is presenting a “Meet the Candidates” forum at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at the Parker Community Center at 12th Street and Laguna Avenue. This forum will allow local residents to hear directly from the candidates for election in the July Primary Election and the November General Election.

It’s almost time for Parker High School’s 2026 graduation ceremony. Another class of young people will be leaving school and heading into the adult world. It’s easy to see why so many graduates are thrilled about their accomplishments and also anxious about what comes next.

The Atlanta Braves had to say good-bye recently to two of the most important figures in their history. Long-time owner Ted Turner died May 6 at the age of 87. Bobby Cox, who managed the Braves during the glory years of the 1990s, died May 9 at the age of 84.

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors gave tentative approval May 18 to a budget for fiscal year 2026-27 that will come to almost $60 million. The budget includes a small increase in the property tax rate. The budget also projects $5.1 million in funds from solar power revenue, which is a reflection of recent land purchases.

Five years ago, La Paz County’s general fund was insolvent with a negative balance. Since then, the balance has been increased by $13 million, and they now have a healthy $9 million positive balance in the general fund.

LePera Elementary School in Poston got a boost to their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education programs when Internet provider Optimum presented the school with a check for $5,000 on Tuesday, May 19.

This past Monday, May 25, was Memorial Day. This is the day set aside to honor those who lost their lives in our nation’s armed forces. It’s a day that deserves our respect and reflection.
