The La Paz County Board of Supervisors has recommended a census tract covering northern Quartzsite to State Route 72 be designated an “Opportunity Zone” by the U.S. Treasury Department. This will give developers and investors tax breaks and other incentives to bring economic development to the area.
Mercy Rogers was selected as the La Paz County Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2026, which covers January through March. Rogers works in the County Finance Department. She received her certificate at the May 4 Board of Supervisors’ meeting. Two Town of Parker employees were recognized at the May 5 Town Council meeting for this actions during an incident that occurred April 14 at the Town of Parker/La Paz County Animal Shelter. A female volunteer was attacked by a dog. Public Works employee Keith Rather was in the Public Works yard next door, heard the commotion, ran into the shelter, and pulled the dog off the volunteer. Sgt. Jonny Ferris responded to the scene and took the necessary actions. Memorial Day is a solemn holiday to honor those who were killed in our nation’s wars. It also unofficially marks the start of the summer holiday season. Boaters and others seeking fun in the sun and on the water were out on the Colorado River near Parker for the Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is one of three major summer holidays. The others are the Fourth of July and Labor Day. While these weekends are busy in the Parker area, one more busy weekend can be added: the weekend of the Parker Tube Float. This year’s Tube Float is scheduled for June 13.
