A few weeks ago we found out about some exciting happenings that took place on the lot at the end of Court Street on Carpenter Street. The property was owned by Athens Brick Company in the early twentieth century. In March 1913, there was a temporary tabernacle built for the Fife Brothers Revival. When the revival was complete, the building was disassembled. The lot was vacant once again. This made space for the Ohio National Guard Armory.
Icicles hanging from the roof are, no doubt, beautiful and fascinating, but it might be an indication of an ice dam on the roof, which blocks melted snow from escaping. The melted snow may back up and seep under the shingles.
Last week we followed the transformation of a small Athens Woolworth’s variety store into the 1966 opening of a super modern mega-Woolworth’s. The building still stands today on South Court Street.
