HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Active thunderstorms will track out of Southwest Nebraska this evening; how far remains a question given the warm temperatures aloft that could inhibit some of the activity. Still some isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms could impact the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas, and with the high instability in place due to the excessive heat, there is a marginal risk that one or two storms could strengthen to produce strong winds and perhaps some hail.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A cold front sagging south across the state will clash with hot humid air bringing a threat for evening and early overnight thunderstorms. Severe Thunderstorm Watches are in effect through 11 o’ clock for Northern Nebraska with Valentine, Ainsworth and O’ Neill included. The Watch has been extended into Eastern Nebraska until midnight as well with Lincoln, Fullerton, Central City and Columbus included. Storms capable of damaging winds, large hail and perhaps a tornado or two are possible.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Severe weather is a concern this evening for the Local 4 area. Storm will move east northeast along a warm front draped across South Central Nebraska this evening into the early overnight. A TORNADO WATCH is effective until 10 pm for South Central Nebraska where damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible. The Tri-Cities is included in the watch as well as Lexington, Holdrege, Alma, Franklin, Red Cloud, Fullerton, Superior to name a few other major towns. The threat for severe weather will likely diminish after the midnight hour.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - We can’t seem to shake the stormy weather, as more storms are expected Wednesday into the morning hours of the Fourth of July. The day will start calm with mostly sunny skies Wednesday morning. Highs are expected to climb into the low to mid 80s.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - It’s nice to not to not have to look over our shoulders for storms for change, as our weather has, at least for now, shifted into more of a mid summer calm. The week starts seasonably warm, with less humidity and temperatures on Tuesday running 3-5 degrees warmer than Monday’s highs with forecast highs ranging from the mid to upper 80s to the lower 90s in the southwest part of Nebraska into northern Kansas.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - This evening any leftover isolated thunderstorms tracking through the area will dissipate with the loss of daytime heating, leaving the rest of the overnight quiet. That will be followed by a second disturbance toward Wednesday morning that could produce an isolated shower or sprinkle early, before 8 AM, otherwise it will be partly to mostly sunny and seasonally warm. Highs will climb into the mid 80s to lower 90s.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Late tonight a disturbance could bring in some isolated showers and thunderstorms from around 3 am into early Friday morning. Any morning clouds will scatter out by the forenoon. Afternoon highs on Friday will climb into the low to mid 80s with lower 90s over southwest parts of the state.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Isolated thunderstorms will continue across the Local 4 forecast area Friday evening into the overnight as an upper level disturbance rotates into the state. Storms could be strongest in southwest area where the instability is greater due to warmer temperatures that pushed into the 90s. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been posted for Western Nebraska until 10 pm. Placement and timing of the storms will be very difficult to predict but should storms intensify they will be capable of 60 to 70 mph winds and large hail.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hazy, smoke filled skies will continue this week as the month of July has finally found the thermostat and is cranking it up. An upper level ridge over the Western U. S. will begin to influence our weather as temperatures spike into the low to mid 90s on Thursday and Friday thanks to south winds.
