The Indianapolis Colts were given a huge gift on Saturday night as the Bengals beat the Broncos to keep them alive for a postseason berth. Yes, plenty still needed to happen for the Colts, but they proceeded to set that gift on fire and kick it down a hill as they completely collapsed against an absolutely woeful Giants squad. This is one of those losses that is going to reverberate throughout the franchise and cause some major changes (or at least should). It was reminiscent of that Carson Wentz loss to the terrible Jaguars when all the Colts needed was to win and they were in the playoffs. That might have been the most embarrassing loss in recent memory, but this was a close second.

Watching the Indianapolis Colts, who suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history against the Giants last week, take on the bottom feeding Jaguars was already going to be a tough game to stomach sitting through. Take away Anthony Richardson, and watching that game might just become impossible. Joe Flacco would be the starter, but he has no future in Indianapolis. Richardson is the future and watching what he can do might be the only reason most fans even consider turning their televisions on for Sunday’s contest.

The Indianapolis Colts had a chance to make the playoffs last week. It was an outside chance that needed other dominoes to fall into place, but it was a chance nevertheless. Just a few short days later, the Colts actually sit with the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. It seems hard to imagine that you could be fighting for a playoff spot and find yourself that close to the top ten draft picks, but with an expanded playoff field, more and more teams find themselves fighting later in the season. That is exactly what the NFL wanted, and it worked. Now that the illusion of a playoff run is out of the minds of Colts fans, it would be best to see them lose Sunday against the Jaguars to better position themselves going forward.
Ballard knows he has to be better in what could be his last shot with the team.

Adonai Mitchell was all the talk out of camp for the Indianapolis Colts last season. He was making plays and flashing great potential. Coaches and fans both seemed excited to see what he could do on the field during his rookie season. Camp stars don’t always translate to game action, and while it is way too early to give up on him, it wasn’t exactly how we thought his first year was going to transpire. Receivers tend to take longer to develop at this level, so with plenty of opportunity and time to make a leap, the jury on Mitchell should still be out.
Watching the 2024 Indianapolis Colts was certainly a roller coaster. From Anthony Richardson getting benched, to the team being in the playoff picture, to one of the worst losses in franchise history, there is a lot to look back on from last year. For now, let’s look forward at how the Colts can put last year behind them and work to get better. There are two main areas of need in my opinion that are worthy of premium picks. Whether Chris Ballard and his team agree is yet to be seen.
The Indianapolis Colts are looking to get their quarterback the help he needs going into the 2025 season. Anthony Richardson will be working with Chris Hess who uses biometrics to help athletes improve their abilities and reach their maximum potential. Richardson certainly needs to improve statistically. His accuracy was a focal point of most broadcasts, and the good news is that it should only go up. Working with someone like Hess can only help. The question I have is whether it will be enough for Richardson to take the leap he needs to in year three.
