A young men’s house in St. Paul has dedicated itself to St. Don Bosco, a saint known for his service to young men in his time. The house originated from an idea by Derrick Diedrich, a University of St. Thomas graduate who wanted an intentional living situation with other young men. Now after the house has blossomed, Diedrich has gone to study at the University of Notre Dame and handed the reins of leadership to Michael Ennis.

While on a trip to Lacrosse, Wisconsin, to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, seminarian Patrick Storms heard about a seminarian’s 238-mile pilgrimage from Our Lady of Guadalupe’s shrine to the shrine of Our Lady of Champion. Inspired by this, Storms wanted to do something similar.

Aug. 24, Divine Mercy Catholic Church was brimming with parishioners overflowing into added seats. Archbishop Bernard Hebda made the procession to the altar along with several priests with connections to Divine Mercy, either as former pastors or as former parishioners. The choir was made up of Divine Mercy Catholic School elementary students. All of this was in honor of the parish’s opening a brand-new school building on the church campus.

Deacon Meyer has since retired from active ministry due to health concerns and now helps at St. Hubert in Chanhassen.
