A year into Jeff Reither’s marriage, he and his wife found out they were expecting. During a doctor’s visit, they heard no heartbeat. Jeff’s wife, Laura, experienced a stillbirth at 25 weeks.

Tom Schulzetenberg, the director of strategic projects at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, has discerned between priesthood and Catholic higher education. He has navigated the difficulties of discerning college. As an undergraduate at the University of St. Thomas (with campuses in St. Paul, Minneapolis and Rome), he was enrolled at St. John Vianney College Seminary in St. Paul, and discerned that priesthood was not for him.

Father Jim Livingston, the pastor of St. Paul in Ham Lake, notes that there’s a lot of Catholic humor around the concept of purgatory, as it can have different meanings to different people.

Bishop Michael Izen suggested that purgatory is not a place between heaven and hell but rather a place of purification necessary for souls of the dead to enter friendship face-to-face with God.

Before their wedding, Jeff and Jenni Fuchs, parishioners of St. Patrick in Oak Grove, bought a video camera to videotape the couple’s honeymoon in Europe. Jeff soon felt inspired by his camera work and decided to self-teach.

In the Nov. 8 “Practicing Catholic” show, Jeff Reither, the director of parish and family life at St. Anne in Hamel, told the story of his family’s emotional journey after the death of their son, Joshua, as a stillbirth.

Claiming Sunday, the Sabbath, as a time of leisure will be the topic of a presentation given on seven separate dates at local parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

When talking about the 1987 comedy “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” Zach Jansen, the digital content producer for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, said it is a film full of fun and surprises, but also one that holds a deeper meaning of sacrifice and love.

Brett Powell, the delegate for development and ministry in the Archdiocese of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, is bringing retreats for his men’s ministry, Life Compass, to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis on Dec. 7.
