Twelve varsity teams and 12 junior varsity teams will compete Dec. 26-31 in the annual Ayala High Girls Basketball Best of the West Tournament with games scheduled at Ayala and Chino Hills high schools.

The Ayala High boys and girls cross country teams are shown at the Running Lanes Cross Country Championships in Huntsville, Alabama two weeks after being forced to withdraw from the CIF-SS championship because of a school reporting error. The school district paid for the trip.

•Don Lugo High girls water polo player Ava Spear scores 20 goals in the Conquistadores’ 30-6 victory over Baldwin Park in a Mt. Baldy League game feat, a single-game record, according to the CIF-Southern Section record book. Spear scores nine first-half goals and had 11 goals in the second half, including four in the fourth quarter.
