Last Saturday evening, 28 members of the Tyrone High School Class of 1959 celebrated their 65th high school class reunion at the Elks in Tyrone. Class President John Galen Gilliland said that with guests, 55 people came to celebrate for what might be the last official reunion.

On Saturday, September 14, the Tyrone Improvement Group with assistance from others at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library and the Tyrone Area Historical Society, will offer the first ever Tyrone Amazing History Race. The race should be fun for anyone and everyone, as it is more of walk than a running race. Teams of up to four people will compete, performing physical and mental challenges that will highlight aspects of the town's culture and history. Children are also welcome, but those nine and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Labor Day is a holiday to celebrate the American Worker. It began in 1894, created by the labor movement. It is a day off for many and often marks the last picnic of summer. In Tyrone, a Labor Day picnic at Reservoir Park Pavilion #1 has been a longstanding activity. Though it had lapsed for a year or two, Tyrone Borough Manager Ardean Latchford has spearheaded efforts to keep the picnic a tradition in the local community, bringing it back last year with the theme of “Woodstock Tyrone,” encouraging people to wear their tie-dye clothing.

Gloria Gates CARE will host a free meal for the needy in coordination with Juicy Butt's BBQ this Saturday, Aug. 31, in their enrollment office parking lot at Cricketfield Plaza in Altoona. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Although the event will be in the Altoona location, organizers said that it is also a great opportunity for Tyrone residents to connect, as Gloria Gates CARE also has an office in Tyrone and they see many of those uninsured community members in need.

Warriors Mark Township Supervisors heard from David Piper, zoning officer for the township during their Sept. 3 public meeting. Piper said that he has received a few calls regarding a potential solar panel site in the township.
