It's been a discussion-filled week in the world of sports. The Colorado Buffalo's Travis Hunter sits atop those conversations. The star player won the Heisman trophy last weekend amid controversy that had nothing to do with football. His now fiancée is Leanna Lenee. She has made front page news by coming off as being disingenuous with Hunter. Throughout this week I've read a lot of different commentary. Some of which question why the public is so invested in these young people's love life? It's a fair question. Generally speaking, we do tend to worry about the wrong things. But this is different.

WWE's flagship weekly show Monday Night Raw has now entered the world of streaming. On Jan. 6, Raw premiered on Netflix, live to a worldwide audience. For such a huge debut, they spared no expense and brought out the big guns. From celebrity sightings to the returns of The Rock and John Cena, this show had something for everyone. It had something for even the '80s babies that fell in love with the art form by watching the likes of Randy Savage, Andre the Giant and yes, Hulk Hogan. The “Immortal One” returned in front of WWE fans last night at the Inuit Dome, and today's fans gave him a piece of their collective minds.

It has been quite the season for the NFL ‘s Philadelphia Eagles' Saquon Barkley . After the New York Giants decided to move on from him last season, signed with our NFC rivals, the Eagles (already onto something great under the leadership of Jalen Hurts) became even more dynamic. And in his first season with the team, Barkley had an opportunity to break the single season rushing record. It was last broken by Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson in 1984 at 2,105 yards. With the NFL regular season recently coming to a close on Jan. 5, Barkley was benched. Citing wanting to have him healthy for the playoffs, the Eagles decided that going for the record just wasn't beneficial to the team's long-term goals.

This January, the new years kicks off with a bang with the launch of Unrivaled . It's a three on three professional women's basketball league. It has been heavily invested in by current and former sports stars like Michael Phelps and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Initially, I started to think about the parallels between this league and Ice Cube's Big 3. That's especially in the case where he bid to bring Caitlin Clark in after her college career, citing that he could pay her more than the WNBA would. But as I looked at the obvious parallel of three on three basketball, I had to consider what set Unrivaled apart from the Big 3.

Recently, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat let it be known that he wanted to be traded from the team. This marks the third team that Jimmy Butler has wanted out of. Previous stints in Minnesota and Chicago resulted similarly. With this third request, Butler is now creating a clear narrative about his career, whether he realizes it or not. Teams are usually leery of a disgruntled superstar, and rightfully so. If a player hasn't been happy in several stops on his tour, who is to say your team will magically be different?

The Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler debacle has continued to rage on. Pat Riley has been at the center of the vitriol spewed. As President of Basketball Operations, the onus is on him to decide who gets contract extensions and who doesn't. Pat Riley knew from this past off-season that he wanted to see more play from Butler before making such a decision. Part of Butler's gripes is that he much rather had his contract dealings settled before the start of this season. Riley continues to stand his ground, and I agree with him.

The NFL playoffs roar on with the divisional championship games on the horizon. I wanted to take a look back at the Pittsburgh Steelers who lost earlier this postseason in the wild card. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been at the helm in Pittsburgh for the past 16 seasons. In a league that has been much maligned for their lack of Black representation in the coaching ranks, this is huge. Being able to have a 16-year stint with one team is remarkable. Not to mention that Mike Tomlin has a Super Bowl win to his name. He also has never has a season where he finished under .500. Make no mistake, Tomlin is the goods.
