Lyons became famous around the nation for its big flood in 2013, with 11 inches of rain coming down and flooding the river. It was the first big flood after Katrina, and the difference was that Colorado was at 5,280 feet high, while Katrina was below sea level. It sparked a fear that “this could happen anywhere.” After our disaster, it seemed like every year one or two big floods started to happen across the nation.

Planet Bluegrass Rocky Mtn Folks Festival in 2026 had 13 daytime acts performing. A few of them had people up on their feet, or singing along, or swaying to the music, or enthusiastically clapping! It takes a lot to get the crowd visibly excited about an act during the day time, …as people are usually slowly filling the grounds with their lawn chairs or blankets… or dozing under their pop-up canopy tents… or dipping their toes in the cool river,… and especially with the weather being 100 degrees all weekend, with no clouds in our clear blue Colorado sky.
