Grand Rapids police confirmed that a very similar incident happened at this building back in September of 2021.

It takes Samantha Turcotte about an hour and a half to walk to her 5 a.m. shift at work. She also has plantar fasciitis in both of her feet.

"As a mom, I've wanted her legacy to be about her kindness, and not about how she died," said Gia's mom, Janice Suhajda.

The afternoon after seeing her story, a man, who asked to be anonymous, came to the WZZM news station, asking us to pass along a generous donation to Turcotte.

"When we first saw Willow in the emergency room, she was so beautiful," said Willow Yon's mother, Denise. "My family and I rested our heads on her broken body."

The family is now staying in a nearby hotel, and while they did have insurance, they say it won't be nearly enough to cover all of their losses.

"These stop signs are like better than Christmas for people who live on this street," said Stephanie Valdez, who's lived nearby for more than 10 years.

Experts are encouraging Michiganders to shop around and ask their agent about how they could possibly lower the cost of their insurance.

That addition comes after parents and families grew increasingly worried after two separate incidents involving guns in the school.

"The conduct in this case is reprehensible," Hon. Judge Matthew Kacel said to Vines. "I think you know that. I hope you know that."
