Forty-five years ago today, President Ronald Reagan announced that he would nominate Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court. He formally nominated her the next month, and she was confirmed in September 1981. O’Connor was the first female justice.
Today is our term-in-review event at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center. The event, titled
Yesterday marked 158 years since the ratification of the 14th Amendment. The amendment, which, among other things, guarantees citizenship to “[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” was in the spotlight during the 2025-26 term, in large part because of the birthright citizenship case.
