JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Mike Parson on Thursday named his pick for St. Louis County's prosecuting attorney, another maneuver in the standoff between the state and county chiefs.

The governor's appointment is uncertain and depends on a judge's decision in St. Louis County.

County Executive Sam Page said the council must pass a budget Tuesday or risk the county pausing in-person applications for the senior property tax freeze. Some councilmembers called his bluff.
