Recently I saw an opinion piece on whether or not artificial intelligence (AI) can be used in the classroom, and it really made me think about how this might work or may not work.

The evening of Sept. 24, Daily Journal Media hosted and Tag Up sponsored an event to hand out the awards for the Best of Otter Tail County at VFW Post 612 here in beautiful downtown Fergus Falls. This year we added “Roaring 20’s” as the theme and had a table decorating contest for those businesses that sponsored tables. Attendees also had the opportunity to dress up in their best 1920’s fashion garb. And they took full advantage of it. Many of the ladies had outstanding dresses with long strings of pearls etc. And many of the men had cool looking hats, vests or suspenders etc. The crew at the VFW was very accommodating to our every need, they even found some 20’s music to play in the background which was very cool. For decorations we asked the VFW for some empty booze bottles that we placed balloons and feathers into to make centerpieces. We also had some nice strings of mini-pearls to run down the middle of the tables. Overall the décor looked and sounded very 1920’s.
Some things are obvious, and sometimes we don’t always notice what is in front of us on a consistent basis. A good example is the neighborhood you live in. If you have not walked through your neighborhood and paid especially close attention to your surroundings, I implore you to do just that. You will likely see your neighborhood in a different light and notice many things you didn't notice were there. It gives you a better understanding and appreciation for where you live.

Seeing the ravages of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in Florida brought back a lot of memories of Hurricane Katrina. My family and I were in Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina struck. We lived in New Iberia, Louisiana. It is located about 120 miles west of New Orleans, and 18 miles south of Lafayette, Louisiana, right on what is commonly called the Cajun Coast.

As I sit here writing this column, with the temperature in the low 30’s and the windshield of my car completely frosted over, I am reminded that winter weather will be here sooner rather than later — and with it, snow. This is the perfect time to talk about snow shoveling, as probably we will indeed be shoveling snow soon.
